Dental Fillings
In the unfortunate event that your kid develops tooth decay, we will clean the tooth and fill it up. Fillings adapt quite well and quickly with the kid's dental structure as it is still developing. Tooth decays are less likely to occur among kids if proper dental hygiene is observed though. As a parent, you should always seek to avoid tooth decay on your kid by ensuring they maintain proper oral hygiene.
Crowns and Bridges
A dental crown is essentially a cover for broken or failing teeth. These are often necessary for children as they can pick up injuries to their teeth when playing. When a tooth is in danger of falling apart and needs to be held together, a crown is a safe, easy option. Often, our dentist will add filling to the teeth so that they form a proper shape to hold the crown. Dental crowns are one of the oldest and most widely performed types of dental works.
A bridge is similar to a crown but is used for entirely missing teeth. The bridge, usually made of ceramic or porcelain, is attached to teeth on each side of the missing tooth called abutments. These teeth serve to hold the bridge in place.
Dentures
Although dentures are usually used in adults, they can also sometimes be used for children. Partial dentures may be an option for patients who have extensive tooth loss throughout the mouth. Dentures come in two varieties: partial dentures and full dentures.
Partial dentures are an overlay on top of existing teeth. Our dentist will take a mold of the patient's teeth and jaw structure and create an individualized denture set. Full dentures, on the other hand, are a completely new set of teeth for the mouth. First, any remaining teeth are removed. Then, a mold is created of the jaw so that the new set of full dentures fit perfectly in the gums. Our team is happy to advise on whether or not dentures would be suitable for your child.
Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and onlays are solutions for damaged teeth or those affected by cavities. They are used when the tooth has enough damage to require intervention but not so much that they need to receive the full cover of a crown. The essential difference between inlays and onlays is that inlays cover the crevices in the teeth but do not extend over the cusp (top) of the tooth, whereas onlays cover one or more cusps.
These are just a few of the many restorative dentistry practices that can help return full functionality to a child's teeth. The correct course of treatment for you can be determined when you visit our offices and consult one of our experienced dentists. He or she will thoroughly examine your mouth, advise you, and together you will decide the best course of action to take.
