A hygienist with kids after their dental treatment at Oahu Pediatric Dentistry in Pearl City, HIHere at Oahu Pediatric Dentistry, we are keen to help you empower your kids to take care of their teeth.

It's crucial to teach each child how to take care of the teeth. Every child should be health conscious and should know what to do to avoid hazardous situations related to their health. One of the vital parts of the body that require regular care is the mouth. The mouth performs several functions every day, and any hindrances can become a big issue. However, some parents find it difficult to get their kids to clean the teeth every day. Below are some of the ways to empower your child to care about teeth.

Your Kid Should Choose Their Brush

Children always like it when they have a say to some extent. If they can't make all the decisions, at least they should be able to pick the type of brush they want. There are tons of toothbrushes which are designed specifically for children. Your child will probably choose one of these designs because it appeals to them more than other designs. Some of these brushes come in vibrant colors, and many of them have pictures of comic characters on the handle. Kids won't get tired of using these types of brushes, and this will facilitate good oral hygiene.

Be Present

It would help if you didn't give your child the freedom of brushing alone. Be there to guide him/her throughout the process. Starting with the application of toothpaste. Show them the right amount of toothpaste that should be applied for a single brush. Brush together. Start by brushing your teeth first and let them see you do it the right way. Now, let the child try it on his/her own with you supervising. You may check their teeth after they finished brushing, but be sure to leave them once in a while to do it on their own until they master the act.

Make it Fun

Kids find brushing boring. To them, it gets in the way of fun activities they enjoy. It would help if you spiced things up a little bit by singing. You can find many songs online which talks about brushing the teeth. Also, you can read a book together while brushing. Some books teach how to brush and the importance of brushing. All these fun activities will make your child look forward to brushing every day. He/she will enjoy brushing more than before. Apart from this, they will always remember to follow the instructions in the book they read.

Do Dental Check-Ups

There's more to dental health than brushing of the teeth. It would help if you took your child for a regular check-up. We are a dedicated team of professionals who can speak to your child in a language they understand. We will help you empower your child so that they can get used to the habit of maintaining good oral hygiene. We are happy to answer your child's questions relating to the teeth and mouth in general.
